Massive fire devastates vast St. Petersburg goods shed


Russia’s Emergency Ministry said the fire broke out on Saturday in a large area measuring some 70,000 square meters.

More than 270 rescuers and 57 vehicles were mobilized to put out the fire, which caused no casualties, according to the local fire chief.

Russian online retailer Wildberries (Russian Amazon) confirmed via telegram that the fire broke out in one of the company’s warehouses. State news agency TASS said the preliminary cause of the fire was a malfunction in electrical wires, citing an emergency services source.
