Black flags flew from streetlights in the town and surrounding Druze villages and all local businesses were closed for the funeral.

Among the population, the attack has raised fears of a wider regional war between Israel and Hezbollah, which has denied responsibility for the attack.

I am afraid of the consequences. If this happened yesterday, what about tomorrow? If it is a total war? It will be really difficult. Many people will die on both sides.” explains a resident.

Israel intends to make Hezbollah pay for this attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Hezbollah would “pay a heavy price.” He also went to Majdal Shams on Monday to meet with the population.

The State of Israel cannot afford to let this tragedy pass. Our response will come and it will be harsh.” he reaffirmed.

The United States is trying to calm the situation

The United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said he did not want to see the conflict escalate and the White House said it was working on a diplomatic solution to “end all attacks once and for all” in the border area between Israel and Lebanon.

At the same time, the American embassy called on its citizens present in Lebanon to leave or seek shelter. The same message of caution was issued by France, Norway and Germany in particular.
