French President Emmanuel Macron – Sunday – announced that he seeks to strengthen the defense budget by adding expenses of $ 4 billion in 2026 and another 3.5 billion in 2027, in the face of accumulated threats.

Macron said-in his traditional speech to the armed forces on the eve of the French National Day-that “a modernization of the military programming law” for a period of 2024-2030 will be presented in the fall.

With these increases, which are added to annual increases that the budget observed within the framework of the military programming law, the defensive budget will be doubled in almost 10 years under the two presidential states of Macron, as it will rise from about 33 billion euros in 2017 to about 64.5 billion in 2027.

Thus, France will have monitored for the year 2027 defensive spending that was noticing that it was reached in 2029, which translates a speedy speed.

“This new and historical effort is proportional, and it is credible and necessary, and it is exactly what we really need,” Macron said.

While the government must reduce the budget to try to control public expenditures, Macron stressed the impossibility of moving forward in “re -armament through borrowing.”

He said, “Our military independence cannot be separated from our financial independence, so that will be funded by more activity and more productivity,” he said.

He reminded that military expenditures are also “rich sources of our gross domestic product”, as the equipment is obtained mainly from French industrialists.

He called on the French to “accept this effort,” describing it as “a temporary effort from everyone to preserve our security and independence.”

He stressed that “the safety of the homeland requires that we increase spending on our defense and that each person bears his share of the burden.”

He also stressed that these additional resources will help “bridge our weaknesses”, pointing to ammunition stocks, “fine weapons”, drones and “space capabilities”, as well as “the necessary equipment daily to ensure the implementation of operations.”
