French President Emmanuel Macron called on Saturday to stop delivering weapons to Israel to fight in Gaza, considering that the priority is a political solution rather than continuing the war.
Macron said in statements to France Inter radio, “I believe that the priority today is to return to a political solution, and to stop handing over weapons to fight the battles in Gaza.”
He stressed during this interview – which was recorded on October 1 – that France “does not deliver” (weapons to Israel).
The French President expressed his regret that the situation in Gaza has not changed, despite all the diplomatic efforts made to reach a ceasefire, especially with Israel.
Macron said, “I think we were not listened to. I said that again to (Israeli) Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I think that is a mistake, including for Israel’s future security.”
He added, “We see this clearly in public opinion, and more horribly in public opinion in the region. In essence, it is resentment that is generated and hatred that feeds on it.”
After the start of the Israeli bombing of Lebanon, Macron indicated that “the priority is to avoid escalation.”
