A poll published by the Israeli newspaper Maariv showed today, Sunday, that the vast majority of the inhabitants of the Gaza cover settlements do not feel safe, and express increasing doubts about Israel’s ability to achieve deterrence against the Gaza Strip, despite the passage of nearly two years since the outbreak of the war.
According to the results of the survey, about 70% of the population sees that the Israeli deterrence towards Gaza is “weak” or “very weak”, while 78% expressed their lack of safety in the region, in light of the continued security tensions.
63% of the respondents also reported that the return of the prisoners detained in Gaza constitutes an essential element in strengthening their sense of security, while 93% said that the current security policies do not eliminate the threats coming from the Strip.
The results also showed that 30.4% of the envelope population thinks about leaving the area or planning to migrate from it due to the deterioration of the security situation, while 77% expressed their lack of confidence in the Israeli media, which accuse him of beautifying the reality and reducing the feeling of threat.
As for confidence in the official institutions, 76.8% indicated their lack of confidence in the Israeli government, and 56% do not trust the Public Security Agency (the Shin Bet), while 45.5% lost their confidence in the army.
These results come days after the Israeli government announced that the envelope residents will be allowed to return to their towns for the first time since October 7, 2023.
