“I stood, and there is no doubt about death for one who stands, and the smell of the noses has mixed with the fasting ones.”

So, there was a narrowness between the two holes, as if you were in the eyelid of the rain while it was sleeping.”

These verses were written by the Syrian poet Suleiman Al-Soula more than 100 years ago, as if he were describing the last scene of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, before his arrest by Israeli occupation soldiers.

The last photo of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya was taken by photographer Muhannad Al-Muqayd, and it shows Dr. Abu Safiya walking in his white gown amid the rubble of Kamal Adwan Hospital, which was burned by the Israeli war machine, with occupation tanks in his face, and he wrote on it, saying, “One man against an entire army. This is Dr. Hossam Abu Safia.

The last scene of Dr. Abu Safiya spread like wildfire on social media platforms. Tweeters likened the photo to the situation the Gaza Strip has been experiencing for more than a year of the Israeli war of annihilation, and one of them commented on it, saying, “Alone… like Gaza.”

Commenting on the photo of Doctor Abu Safiya, Dr. Munir Al-Bersh, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, wrote, “With this photo, Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya succinctly summarized our situation: the doctor who provides humanitarian medical service to his people and has nothing but his medical coat, facing the machine of killing, destruction, and occupation.”

Commenting on the scene of Dr. Abu Safiya facing the occupation tanks, tweeters said, “This is how the men of Gaza are. They assassinated his son, wounded him, bombed his hospital, and burned it. He did not leave the hospital and returned to doing his work rescuing the sick and wounded, and here he is in the last scene before his arrest, walking armed with his white coat toward a heavily armored tank.” With the latest weapons of lethality and killing, it is Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, another steadfast mountain in Gaza.

Others pointed out that Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Martyr Kamal Adwan Hospital, ran a media and humanitarian battle against the Israeli enemy with great ability and efficiency, and for a long period of time.

Regarding the courage of Dr. Abu Safiya, activists wrote, “We bid farewell to the year with the image of a man who was shaken by a nuclear state and not intimidated by steel tanks. He was forced to go to his fate with his bare feet, and every grain of dirt beneath him accepted his touch.”

Bloggers demanded the launch of a campaign on social media platforms that sheds light on the situation of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya and the rest of his medical staff, saying, “If there is someone who cares about the life of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya, they should take real steps to support him, through pressing legal and media action to release him and ensure his safety, with Knowing that he holds Russian citizenship, one of them concluded his tweet by writing, “The life of Dr. Hossam Abu Safiya is in real danger.”

Others thanked and appreciated Dr. Labo Safiya for what he did to help patients and said they expressed their appreciation and admiration for the doctor’s position. #Hossam_Abu_Safiya, Director of #Kamal_Adwan_Hospital, the brave doctor with values and principles… It was the last operating hospital in the northern Gaza Strip before the fascist occupation forces stormed, destroyed and burned it.

Since the occupation army’s attack on the North Governorate on October 5, coinciding with an applied military siege, the hospital has been subjected to dozens of attacks with missiles and fire, with a health official saying that the army is treating it as a “military target.”

This operation caused the health system to be almost completely out of service, according to statements by government officials, in addition to stopping the work of the civil defense apparatus and ambulances belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
