Yisrael Beiteinu party leader Avigdor Lieberman said Tuesday that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is on its way to expanding, by adding the New Hope party headed by Gideon Sa’ar to the ruling coalition.
Lieberman revealed in an interview with Maariv newspaper that this change will take place within the framework of a broader step represented by Netanyahu’s dismissal of his Defense Minister Yoav Galant and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.
He stressed that Galant’s dismissal is only a matter of time, he said. He added that Netanyahu’s government has gone bankrupt and that a war cannot be waged while the prime minister and his defense minister are not talking to each other.
Galant had previously stressed that he would not resign from his position, and said that Netanyahu could dismiss him if he did not want him to continue in the government.
It is noteworthy that Lieberman is a right-wing extremist and a former ally of Netanyahu, known for his positions calling for the displacement of those who do not recognize Israel as a Jewish Zionist state. He previously held the positions of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense. However, he has recently taken positions against Netanyahu and accused him of working to destroy Israel.
In the same context, Lieberman also expected the dismissal of the Israeli Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi.
Israeli political circles had previously called on Halevi and Galant to resign from their positions due to their responsibility for the failure to repel Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa on October 7, 2023.
The street also demands that Netanyahu step down from power and hold early elections, after his failure to defeat Hamas and his inability to recover the Israeli prisoners from Gaza despite the passage of 11 months since his war on the Strip.
