The Central Election Commission of Georgia confirmed on Sunday morning the victory in the legislative elections of the Georgian Dream party, with 54.08% of the votes. The announcement was made by Commission President Giorgi Kalandarishvili during a press conference.

The ruling party, conservative and pro-Russian, therefore resisted the pro-European opposition coalition which obtained only 37.58% of the votes.

The count was carried out in more than 99% of the constituencies, indicates the Commission.

The opposition supported by President Salomé Zourabichvili denounces “stolen elections”.

This result will allow the party of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili to form a new government and moves the Caucasian country away from membership in the European Union.
