While the scandal of Russia’s wiretapping of the German army continues, Berlin is trying to justify itself.
The leaks of this top secret conversation were due, according to the government, to a “individual error”. This was explained by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a press conference.
“The phone call may have been recorded within the ranks of the Air Force due to individual error. Not all participants followed the prescribed secure dialing procedure. Apparently, the Singapore participant’s data was leaked. He connected via an unauthorized connection, i.e. virtually via an open connection“, said Boris Pistorius, German Defense Minister.
This scandal has relaunched the debate on Berlin’s delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine, and shows Olaf Scholz isolated in the face of part of his government.
During a visit to Montenegro, the German Defense Minister said that all means to help Kyiv should be examined.
Despite Ukraine’s incessant demands, the German Chancellor refuses to deliver these weapons, for fear that these long-range missiles will lead to an escalation of the conflict with Moscow. The leaks have already created renewed tension between Germany and Russia.
