Le Golan: A battle for power | Agriculture

Syrian farmers in occupied Golan Heights oppose the plans of an Israeli energy company for wind turbines on their land.

A battle on earth, natural resources and wind energy in occupied Golan Heights – a microcosm of the broader Arab -Israeli conflict.

This documentary concerns a group of producers of Syrian fruits who take an Israeli energy company on the right to build wind turbines on land that they have cultivated for several centuries.

Farmers are Syrians Druze from the north of the Golan, which has been illegally occupied by Israel since the war of June 1967.

The Druze oppose that they consider a social and environmental threat to their community – and what they also consider as an Israeli attempt to build permanent infrastructure on illegally occupied land, in violation of international law.

It is a powerful history in which global policy and a simple agricultural lifestyle collide, creating a confrontation that resonates beyond the orchards of the Golan Heights.
