In the military cemetery of Banneville-la-Campagne, located east of Caen, a candle has been placed on each stele.

Here rest more than 2000 soldiers, mostly British, who fought in the Second World War. Ceremonies continue on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

On Thursday, 25 heads of state will participate, alongside Emmanuel Macron, in an international tribute.

Normandy has 27 military cemeteries which house more than 110,000 graves.
