This is one of the largest drone attacks Ukraine has seen since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. In total, 71 Russian explosive drones targeted the country on the night of Friday November 24 to Saturday November 25.

The strikes mainly targeted Kyiv but the regions of Sumy, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporjjia, Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad were also targeted. At least five civilians were injured and several buildings including a nursery were damaged during the assault which lasted several hours.

While most of the drones were shot down, others caused the rupture of a “power supply line”. In the Ukrainian capital, 77 residential buildings and 120 institutions no longer have power. These electricity cuts would affect nearly 17,000 people According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.

As winter approaches, Ukraine prepares for new Russian bombing campaignand fears a situation similar to that of last winter, during which millions of people found themselves without electricity at the height of the cold snap.
