King Hussein Bridge reopens to travelers, remains closed commercially | News

This morning, Tuesday, passenger traffic resumed on the King Hussein Bridge, which connects Jordan to the occupied West Bank, while remaining closed to freight traffic. The Public Security Directorate in Jordan called on travelers to “adhere to the times and instructions to save their time and effort.”

This comes after the crossing was closed in both directions (Jordanian and Israeli) for 48 hours, following the killing of 3 Israeli security personnel at the crossing by a Jordanian truck driver named Maher Jazi, from Ma’an Governorate in the south of the Kingdom.

Since its opening this morning, the bridge has witnessed heavy traffic with travelers who had been stranded in Jordan for the past two days. The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) quoted sources as saying that the Karameh crossing is witnessing active movement of travelers after being closed for two days.

The sources indicated that the crossing will be available for passenger traffic only, and will remain closed to the entry of commercial trucks.

For its part, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority said, “The Airports Authority has reopened the Allenby Crossing to passenger traffic, but not to goods.”

The side where the operation took place is called the “Allenby Crossing” according to the Israeli name, and it is located between the border crossing on the Jordanian side, called the “King Hussein Bridge”, and the Palestinian side, called the “Karameh Crossing”.

Yesterday evening, Monday, the Jordanian Public Security Directorate announced the opening of the King Hussein Bridge border crossing with the occupied West Bank for travel.

Colonel Amer Al-Saratawi, spokesman for the directorate, which is affiliated with the Jordanian Ministry of Interior, said in a statement received by Anadolu Agency yesterday: “King Hussein Bridge will open tomorrow, Tuesday, to traffic at 8:00 a.m. (05:00 GMT), while remaining closed to freight traffic.”
