King Charles arrived in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, on a symbolic visit aimed at showing support to the British Crown country in front of US President Donald Trump’s endeavor to be the US state 51.
The king, who traveled with his wife, Queen Camilla, was received at the airport runway, Prime Minister Mark Carne and Governor Mary Simon, his representative in Canada.
King Charles, at the invitation of Carney, will open the parliamentary sessions in Ottawa today, which is the first time that Britain’s king has taken this task since his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, has taken 68 years ago.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to include Canada, a proposal that was met with a categorical rejection of Carney, who won the Canadian elections last month for reasons, including this situation.
During King Charles’s visit last week to the Canadian High Commissioner, the Canada Ambassador to Britain, Ralph Godal, told reporters, “The Prime Minister (Carne) explained that Canada is not for sale now, is never for sale.”
“In his capacity as head of state, the king will strengthen the strength and firmness of this message,” he added.
King Charles pointed to his support for Canada in the past few months, as he wore Canadian medals and called himself the King of Canada, and described her knowledge as “a symbol that is never unable to raise a sense of pride and admiration.”
This is the first visit by King Charles to the former British colony since he became king in September 2022.
