Khan Younis hospital saturated by influx of patients as Israel bombs Gaza | Israeli-Palestinian conflict News

The number of displaced people arriving at the Nasser Medical Complex continues to rise, with new shelters set up in the facility’s parking lot and many people sleeping on the ground in the open.

The hospital located in Khan Younis, where Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams provide surgical care to patients suffering from trauma and burns, has also seen a constant influx of new patients, pushing its capacity to the breaking point .

“The hospital receives many seriously injured patients almost every hour,” said Chris Hook, MSF medical coordinator in Khan Younis. “With the current situation at the hospital – there is no more space available – it is truly a terrible situation. Everyone is really worried about what happens next. »

The Israeli military said its warplanes and helicopters struck targets in Gaza, including “tunnel shafts, command centers and weapons storage facilities.” He acknowledged “widespread air attacks in the Khan Younis region.”

“In a military campaign that has lasted for weeks, with only a brief respite, the speed and scale of the bombings continue to plumb the depths of brutality,” said MSF’s Hook. “Nearly two million people are left without options. The only solution is an immediate and lasting ceasefire and an unrestricted supply of aid to the entire Gaza Strip. »
