Karim Khan: No one has a license to commit war crimes or crimes against humanity | News

ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan told The Times that no one has a license to commit war crimes or crimes against humanity and that the means define the court.

Khan added that this is not the way war is supposed to be waged, otherwise the Geneva Conventions serve no purpose.

On May 29, Karim Khan announced that he had submitted requests to the court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, for their complicity in causing suffering and starvation of civilians in Gaza.

At the same time, Khan accused the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Martyr Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the movement’s military wing, Muhammad al-Deif, as well as the head of the movement’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, of being responsible for committing war crimes and against humanity in Israel. According to his expression.

In an interview with The Times, Khan stressed that the current moment is a risky moment at the international level. If the law is not adhered to, they will have nothing to adhere to.

He said that if signatory countries do not step forward to the Convention on the Criminal Court, this will have enormous implications.

Khan pointed out that Gaza lies on a fault line in international relations, but this does not prevent putting the rights of victims first.

Khan stressed that the moral outrage, care and concern for the victims must be the same, regardless of the religion or ethnicity of these victims.

Karim Khan revealed a few days ago during an interview with the American channel CNN that he had been subjected to threats related to his request to issue arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant. He explained that some politicians spoke to him, and they were very frank, and they said, “This court was established for the sake of Africa and for the sake of thugs like Putin.”
