The Minister of the Interior had affirmed that the footballer had “notorious” links with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Footballer Karim Benzema filed a complaint this Tuesday for defamation against Gérald Darmanin. The interior minister claimed that the former Real Madrid striker had links “notorious” with the Islamist organization of the Muslim Brotherhood when it posted a message of support for the inhabitants of Gaza on social networks.
In the 92 pages of the complaint, filed by his lawyer, the footballer repeats that he has no link with the Islamist organization and above all that this allegation damages his honor.
If the complaint is deemed admissible, the Minister of the Interior risks having to pay a fine of 12,000 euros.
