Jordan hosts an international conference on humanitarian response in Gaza News

Today, Tuesday, Jordan is hosting an international conference on emergency humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip, in light of the continued suffering of the residents of the Strip, which has been subjected to Israeli aggression since last October 7.

The conference will be held at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Center on the shore of the Dead Sea, jointly organized by the United Nations, Jordan and Egypt. In the presence of representatives of 75 countries, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who is touring the region in search of reaching a ceasefire agreement.

The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths, leaders of states, heads of government, and heads of international humanitarian and relief organizations, will participate in the conference, with the aim of “identifying ways to strengthen the international community’s response to the humanitarian disaster.” In the Gaza Strip,” according to a statement by the Jordanian Royal Court.

According to the conference program distributed by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “3 working groups” will be held during the morning session, whose discussions will focus on ways to “provide humanitarian aid to Gaza in proportion to the needs,” ways to “overcome the challenges facing the delivery of humanitarian aid and protect civilians,” and “early recovery priorities.” “.

In the evening session, King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Palestinian President, in addition to many heads of state and government, will deliver speeches.

Collective response

A statement issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the conference will discuss “preparations for early recovery, and seek commitments for a collective and coordinated response to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.”

The statement explained, “The primary goal of this high-level meeting is to reach consensus on practical measures to meet immediate needs on the ground.”

The conference concludes with a joint press conference with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Egypt.

The conference is being held amid an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli aggression, which left more than 121,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens.

For 18 years, Israel has besieged the Gaza Strip, and its war forced about two million of its population, numbering about 2.3 million Palestinians, to flee in catastrophic conditions, with severe scarcity of food, water and medicine.
