Unsurprisingly, the American president beat his Democratic rivals by an overwhelming majority.
US President Joe Biden largely won the Democratic primaries in South Carolina, obtaining 96.5% of the votes for his nomination.
He handily beat other Democrats in the vote, including Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips and author Marianne Williamson.
South Carolina’s vote was doubly important for Joe Biden: It was the first racially diverse state to hold primaries, outside of predominantly white Iowa and New Hampshire. The victory was above all of a symbolic nature for the outgoing president: during the previous campaign, 4 years ago, it was precisely his victory in South Carolina which helped him secure his inauguration after previous disappointing defeats.
