Jewish historian Ilan Pappe said that Israel may commit genocide in the occupied West Bank after the Gaza Strip if the Western powers do not abandon their “supportive of Zionism” policies, stressing the need to distinguish between the symptoms and the currently worsening problem in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Pappe indicated – in an interview with Anadolu Agency on the sidelines of an event he attended in the Belgian capital, Brussels – that what Israel is doing in the Gaza Strip is genocide by all legal, academic and political definitions.
The Israeli historian – who serves as director of the Center for European Palestinian Studies at the British University of Exeter – stated that the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip began before October 7, 2023, as it besieged the Gaza Strip and prevented its residents from accessing food, medicine, and services.
Pappe expressed his great fear if the international community does not wake up and realize that it must play a role in stopping Israel, because “it will now think about doing the same thing in the West Bank,” referring to genocide.
The Jewish historian explained that Israel “is not afraid of a regional war, because its supporters want to make it the most important power that everyone fears, and they believe they are able to do that.”
He added that what he called “the current version of Zionism” leads, as everyone sees, to genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, pointing out that “solving anti-Semitism in Europe by stripping Palestinians of their property is problematic and immoral,” according to what Anatolia reported. .
Pappe explained that some regional powers must play a role in resolving the Palestinian issue instead of Western powers, saying, “We need regional powers like Turkey and Iran. These regional countries are almost part of the Arab world in many ways.”
In parallel with its war on Gaza, which has continued for the 385th day, the Israeli army is escalating its military campaigns in the West Bank, along with its settlers’ attacks against the Palestinians, which led to the death of 760 Palestinians, the injury of about 6,300, and the arrest of 11,400 since October 7, 2023, according to official Palestinian data.
