Jerusalem.. The Jaabis family is preparing to demolish their store themselves | Jerusalem News

Occupied Jerusalem- The Jaabis family in occupied Jerusalem is preparing to demolish a small store they own in the Jabal Mukaber neighborhood, after a decision from the occupation court and a move from the Israeli Jerusalem municipality on the grounds of building without a permit.

Al-Maqdisi Hassan Atta Jaabis told Tel Aviv Tribune Net that the store has been present since 2017 in the corridors of the Israeli judiciary in an attempt to cancel a previous demolition notice under the pretext of building without a license, indicating that it is a small family store that the family depends on for its food needs.

He added that he suffers from several diseases, while his daughter Rawabi manages the store, whose area does not exceed 55 square meters, noting that fines and violations of no less than $25,000 have been paid since 2017, but all of that did not prevent the issuance of the demolition decision.

He continued that the occupation municipality took advantage of the atmosphere of war on Gaza to move and issue a final demolition decision, and gave him the choice between demolishing the store himself or the municipality implementing the decision and paying the exorbitant cost of the demolition mechanisms.

The Jaabis family was forced to sell the contents of the store for less than its cost, hoping to empty as much of it as possible before implementing the demolition decision themselves.

Since the start of the aggression against Gaza on October 7, the occupation has escalated its measures in Jerusalem and its restrictions on the movement of Jerusalemites, according to human rights reports.
