The Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post considered the launching of missiles from Yemen and Gaza a major shift in the security situation in Jerusalem, which had enjoyed relative calm since the beginning of Israel’s war on the Strip.
On Saturday, the Israeli army announced two missile attacks, one from Yemen claimed by the Ansar Allah group (Houthis), and the other from Gaza.
According to the editorial, sirens sounded in Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and parts of southern Israel following the Houthi strike on Saturday morning, which the newspaper considered a remarkable escalation after the group attacked – last Tuesday – a military target in central Israel with a hypersonic ballistic missile.
The editorial pointed out that this attack coincides with the US-British coalition launching raids on Yemen, specifically on Houthi sites, in support of Israel.
Later the same day, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) launched two rockets from Gaza towards Jerusalem, and the Israeli army intercepted them. This was an “unusual” step by the movement, according to the editorial, especially after Israeli expectations of the movement’s military capabilities diminishing.
According to the editorial, this attack showed that Hamas has “the resources and the intention” to target Israeli targets in the city.
The newspaper believes in its editorial that these attacks could have long-term repercussions, including expanding the scope of the war.
