Jens Stoltenberg “urges” Armenia and Azerbaijan “to find an agreement to pave the way towards normalization” of their relations.
According to the NATO Secretary General, Baku and Yerevan “have an opportunity to achieve lasting peace” and the stability of the region “counts for Euro-Atlantic security.”
Jens Stolbenber spoke this Tuesday in Yerevan during a joint press conference with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian.
The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance was completing a three-day tour in the Caucasus where he visited Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Two wars opposed Armenia and Azerbaijan for control of Nagorno-Karabakh. The first in 1990 and the second in 2020.
At the end of the conflict, Nagorno-Karabakh came under the control of Azerbaijan.
The region remains under tension and incidents between the two countries remain frequent at the border.
