Jenin Freedom Theater: Voices of Resistance | Documentary

Despite Israeli incursions into Jenin, Mahmoud and his young actors are putting on a play that they hope to perform abroad.

Since October 7, Israeli attacks on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank have intensified. Amid the chaos of incursions, shootings, demolitions and drone strikes, the Freedom Theater provides a sanctuary for the camp’s youth. Led by Mahmoud Abu Aita, a group of young aspiring actors rehearse for a show abroad.

Despite the violence he endured, Mahmoud remains hopeful. He believes this journey, from a life darkened by conflict to beyond Jenin, can help his students heal and broaden their horizons. But under the influence of occupation, leaving Jenin can be an elusive dream.

The Freedom Theater of Jenin is a documentary film by Eyad Hourani.
