In the aftermath of the earthquakes which left at least 55 dead and dozens injured in Japan, it is time to take stock.
The earthquakes, the most powerful of which was magnitude 7.5, caused significant material damage. Like a heavily damaged road, in the Noto peninsula.
Thousands of homes were also destroyed. And more than 33,000 homes are without electricity, according to the authorities, who have promised to quickly come to the aid of those affected.
“I was at my workplace. But if I had been at home, it would probably have been dangerous, because of the tsunami warning,” explains a resident.
“Regarding the power outages, water outages and communications disruptions that are currently occurring, teams have been on site and are working to restore them,” said Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan.
Rescuers are working to find possible victims under the rubble. Particularly in the port city of Wajima, which has 27,000 inhabitants. It was the most affected by these earthquakes which caused a fire in the city center. Less than 100 kilometers away, in Shika, while the running water network was damaged, the town hall committed to providing six liters of water per person.
