Today’s poster: Morocco – South Africa
After the disappointments of several “big” teams, Morocco is starting to find itself alone among the favorites still in the running. After a rather successful first round, they will have to confirm against South Africa, an efficient if not brilliant team. Until then, the Atlas Lions have been solid and impactful, with well-established tactics and undeniable respect for the opponent. But sometimes too much. Playing well is good. But now we have to score, and win!

The player to watch: Kamory Doumbia
Unknown in France until his quadruplet with Brest in December, Kamory Doumbia is already, at 20 years old, an essential element of the Malian selection. The Eagles playmaker with great potential will undoubtedly be keen to shine on Tuesday in the round of 16 against neighboring Burkina Faso.

What happened yesterday
Ryan Mendes delivers Cape Verde : thrill team of the first round, Cape Verde almost lost its grinta against this surprising team from Mauritania. The Blue Sharks had all the difficulty in the world to break through the Mourabitounes defense, and relied on a penalty from the inevitable Mendes in the final minutes. The great adventure continues for Cape Verde, 10 after its first quarter-final at the CAN.
Elephants are very deceptive : drafted at the last minute among the best thirds in the group stages, Ivory Coast did not miss its chance to return to its CAN at home. Facing the Lions of Teranga, reigning African champions, the Ivorians qualified for the quarter-finals after the suspense. Resurrection.

Félix Houphouët-Boigny watches over the Elephants: upon arrival in the capital Yamoussoukro, before the decisive match against Senegal, the Ivorian selection went to pay their respects at the grave of Félix Houphouët-Boigny, founding father of modern Côte d’Ivoire, who died in 1993. A tribute to the president who organized the first CAN in the country in 1984 and who was at its head during the first CAN won by the Ivorians in 1992. A visit which brought luck to the Elephants, winners this Monday of the Lions of Téranga. Samuel Eto’o and the Cameroonian delegation also went to reflect upon their arrival in Ivory Coast for the CAN.
