The 29-year-old Italian is being held in solitary confinement in Evin prison in Tehran.

The Italian Defense Minister denounces “unacceptable arrest”.

The young woman works in particular for the newspaper Il Foglio.

Its editor-in-chief recalls that “Journalism is not a crime”.

Claudio Cerasa, editor-in-chief of the daily Il Foglio: “Cecilia had a regular visa in Iran. She was not undercover. Cecilia is not an adventurer. She is a competent, good, prepared and careful journalist.”

Cecilia Sala entered Iran on a journalist visa on November 12.

Iranian police arrested her on December 19, the day before she was due to return to Italy.

Rome’s ambassador to Iran was allowed to visit the journalist in her prison.

According to the Italian diplomat, Cecilia Sala is “healthy”.
