Israel’s new Foreign Minister: We are waging a global war against Iran News

The new Israeli Foreign Minister, Yisrael Katz, said that they are fighting what he called a third world war against Iran, and accused Tehran of working to develop a nuclear weapon.

In statements reported by the “Israel 24 News” website on Wednesday – while taking over his foreign ministry duties from his predecessor, Eli Cohen – Katz stated that Israel is in the midst of a global war against Iran and what he described as extremist Islam.

He continued, “The front that Iran built in this region is not against Israel. This is a third world war with today’s tools, and we are at the forefront of the whole world,” he said.

The new Foreign Minister also said that Tehran is continuing more aggressively in its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Katz spoke about his priorities, saying that foremost among them is the return of detainees in Gaza to their homes, of whom Israel currently estimates at about 130 prisoners.

Israeli media reported that the ministerial change comes within the framework of a previous agreement between the two ministers regarding the exchange of ministerial portfolios, and that this was completed a year after the formation of the current government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Last Sunday, the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz” reported that the government agreed to activate the rotation agreement between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Cohen) and Energy (Katz).

With the formation of the current government in December 2022, it was agreed to rotate between the two ministers, with Cohen assuming the Foreign Ministry portfolio for a year, followed by a two-year period for Katz, and then Cohen returning to the Foreign Ministry for the fourth and final year, on the condition that the government continues its term.
