Attacks on civil infrastructure increase in the middle of Israel’s “intensified” offensive on the beaten enclave.
Israeli attacks against northern Gaza have killed more than 50 people since dawn.
The number of deaths of night attacks was recorded on Monday morning. According to Palestinian Civil Defense officials, among the affected objectives, there was a school that shelters displaced people in Gaza City and a family home in Jabalia.
At least 33 people were killed in an attack in the middle of the night at Fahmi al-Jarjawi school in the Daraj district of Gaza City, the spokesman for the Civil Defense Mahmud Bassal told the AFP news agency.
The school had devoted “hundreds” of people, said Bassal, adding that people killed were mainly children and women. Dozens have been injured, he added.
The Israeli army said on Monday that the objective of the attack was a control center for Islamic jihad in Hamas and the Palestinian jihad sheltering “key terrorists”.
“Many measures have been taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians,” he added.
Video sequences broadcast by Tel Aviv Tribune have shown fires in classrooms where people in force were sleeping, a child straying alone among flames and outside people trying desperately to break the windows.
In a separate attack on a residence in the city of Jabalia in the Northern Gaza Strip, 19 members of the Abd Rabbo family were killed, according to Bassal.
A nearby tent camp in Gaza City has also been targeted, according to unconfirmed reports, killing six people.
Targeted schools
Despite the assembly of international pressure, which prompted Israel to lift a blockade on aid supplies in the face of warnings from imminent famine, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated last week that Israel would put an intensified military campaign until it controls the whole of Gaza.
International humanitarian law prohibits attacks on civil infrastructure, including schools. But Israel has repeatedly bombed schools, being mainly used as shelter by displaced people, throughout his 19 -month war in Gaza.
At least 50 people were killed by bombs and artillery attacks in November 2023 at the Al-Buraq school in Gaza City
At the neighboring Al-Tabin school, more than 100 people were killed when they gathered for morning prayers in August from last year.
