Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported, citing security sources, that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is working to strengthen its authority again in the areas that the Israeli army left in the Gaza Strip.

She added that the Israeli army has noticed a worrying trend, which is that Hamas controls about two million people in Gaza without opposition to its rule.

The newspaper also quoted security sources as saying, “No one in Gaza stands against Hamas and no one challenges its rule,” stressing that Hamas is the biggest beneficiary of the political leadership’s failure to find an alternative to rule Gaza.

In the same context, Haaretz newspaper quoted an Israeli army officer as saying that he feared new attempts by Hamas to target Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported in the middle of this month that Benjamin Netanyahu’s government informed the Supreme Court that Hamas still rules Gaza and that the occupation army is facing resistance in the Strip, both underground and above ground.

She pointed out that the Netanyahu government had presented its response in sessions held by the Supreme Court to discuss a petition submitted by organizations regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the distribution of aid in the Strip.

The government said in its response that Israel does not maintain effective control over the Gaza Strip, and that the army’s presence in Gaza is limited in a way that does not allow for actual control and the activation of government powers.

The government confirmed that Hamas is still able to exercise its governing powers in the Strip, and that the occupation army is still facing armed resistance in Gaza from what it described as enemies in Gaza, both underground and above ground.

It is noteworthy that many Israeli analysts agreed, after the appointment of Yahya Sinwar as head of the political bureau of Hamas, that the movement will not compromise on disarming the resistance, and they stressed that the Gaza Strip on the day following the war will remain under its control.
