Israeli right-wingers organize exploratory sea trips in preparation for settling the Gaza Strip | Variety

Footage from a conference of the settler group “Hilltop Youth” documented an “exploratory” sea trip organized by Israeli families to see lands in the Gaza Strip that they plan to settle.

A documentary film titled “Holy Redemption” revealed the plans and tactics of the settlers belonging to the extreme Israeli right to uproot Palestinians from the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, by building more settlement outposts.

These settlement trips come amid a devastating Israeli war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, which has left more than 137,000 martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to thousands of missing persons, amidst comprehensive destruction and deadly famine.

This documentary focuses on the “Hilltop Youth,” a radical youth group that claims to be descendants of the prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) and believes in the right to own all Palestinian land in their sight. The group is led by Daniela Weiss, who asserts that the group’s goal is to take control of Gaza and turn it into a fully Jewish land, even if the price is the extermination of the Palestinians.

The film, produced by the Turkish channel TRT World, was filmed by infiltrating extremist groups in the West Bank two months after the outbreak of the Gaza war. The documentary shows the tactics of these groups in carrying out their hostile actions using organized terrorism to force Palestinians into forced migration.

“Holy Redemption” won several awards, including Best Documentary at the Aljazeera Balkan International Documentary Film Festival in Sarajevo. The scenes shown sparked angry reactions on social media, with many users calling the film “horrific” and one noting that “this is a society that has crossed all limits of brutality.”

The Hilltop Youth movement was founded in 1998 with the encouragement of then-Israeli Defense Minister Ariel Sharon. It believes in the need to establish a “Jewish state” in “Greater Israel” by expelling all Palestinians. Its members are based on the hilltops of the occupied West Bank, where they live in harsh conditions, relying on herding and transportation.

This documentary comes amid the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza that began last October. As the conflict escalates, groups like the Hilltop Youth are seeking to expand their settlements and seize more Palestinian land.
