Israeli politician Eli Goldschmidt attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, telling him that the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Yahya Sinwar, defeated him in the war of minds.
Goldschmidt said – in a video clip broadcast by Netanyahu’s “Above Authority” program – that “Yahya Sinwar, who came from the refugee camp in Khan Yunis (southern Gaza Strip), and who was released in the Shalit deal… this person defeated you in the war of minds.”
He added, addressing Netanyahu, whom he described as arrogant, “Sinwar has made you look like dust…and he was a thousand times smarter than you.”
Goldschmidt’s statements come as Netanyahu faces severe criticism from the Israeli street over his refusal to conclude a deal with the Palestinian resistance under which the remaining Israeli detainees in the Strip will be released.
In the same context, Israeli writer Ben Dror Yemini confirmed – in a previous article published in Yedioth Ahronoth – that Sinwar achieved everything he wanted from the war and is running what he described as a “chess game” with amazing success against Israel, indicating that Tel Aviv must accept a settlement deal with the movement.
It is noteworthy that Israel arrested Sinwar several times and sentenced him to four life sentences before he was released in the Gilad Shalit deal (Wafa al-Ahrar deal) in 2011. The Israelis consider him the mastermind of the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation on October 7.
