Israeli media wonders about the delay in forming an official investigation committee into the October 7 attack policy

Israeli media focused on the delay of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in forming an official investigation committee into the attack of October 7, 2023, amid questions about the reasons for this delay, in addition to exploiting news channels to promote the government’s positions.

A few days ago, Israeli President Isaac Herzog stressed the importance of forming an official investigation committee into the “Al-Aqsa Flood” attack launched by the Al-Qassam Brigades. The military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation), as quickly as possible.

Herzog stressed the need to “conduct an in-depth and comprehensive investigation into the causes of the failure and the terrible disaster that befell the settlements around the Gaza Strip,” after the publication of audio recordings of female surveillance soldiers at the Nahal Oz military base before the attack.

The father of one of the female surveillance soldiers killed in the attack believes that the Israeli army is abusing them, pointing to the ridicule of a member of the Knesset from the ruling Likud Party at the demands to form an official investigation committee.

The father of a second female soldier killed in the attack said that some military leaders do not deserve to wear the Israeli army uniform with blood on their hands, and they do not have the responsibility to bear the failure of October 7, 2023.

In this context, the political analyst on the Israeli Channel 13 pointed out that many speakers from within the government said that an official investigation committee would not be formed, ignoring that between 70% and 80% of the public demand the formation of an official committee and trust its results.

On October 7, 2023, the Al-Qassam Brigades carried out a major attack on bases, barracks and settlements around the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of Israeli soldiers and officers.

The Qassams also captured at least 240 Israelis, more than 100 of whom were released during a temporary humanitarian truce in November 2023, while dozens of prisoners held in Gaza were killed due to Israeli raids that have been ongoing for more than a year.

Two days ago, Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy directed the acceleration of investigations conducted by the army into its performance and failures in confronting the Palestinian resistance attack, after Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz confirmed that he would not approve any new appointments to the rank of major general in the army before the investigations were completed.

But Netanyahu refuses to form an official investigation committee into the attack on October 7, 2023, before the end of the war on the Gaza Strip.

On another topic, Rogel Alper, a television critic and journalist in Haaretz newspaper, touched on the coverage of 4 television channels, which he said had “a common narrative that labels those abroad who support the Israeli army’s operations in the Gaza Strip as pro-Israel.”

On the other hand, these channels label “those who talk about the suffering of the Palestinian population, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and forced displacement as anti-Israel,” according to Alper.
