Israeli left-wing organizations urge Biden to stop the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza Policy

The Israeli newspaper (Jerusalem Post) reported that a group of left-wing Israeli organizations submitted a letter to US President Joe Biden on Tuesday, requesting that Israel be encouraged to stop military actions in the Gaza Strip and continue managing the transportation and distribution of aid.

The newspaper said that the letter accuses Israel of not complying with US instructions to act in self-defense in accordance with international humanitarian law and the rules of war, and that Israel is violating international law in Gaza while providing aid.

The Jerusalem Post adds that, despite pointing out that Israel is committing violations of international law, the letter goes on to say that they do not wish to focus on this, but rather to express concern about the worsening humanitarian crisis developing in Gaza.

It is not an inevitable consequence of war

The organizations say that Israel’s policy has pushed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza to the point of catastrophe, not only as an inevitable consequence of the war.

The letter indicates that allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza is not a gesture of good faith on the part of Israel, but rather one of its obligations, and says that, under international humanitarian law, combat parties must provide civilian populations who do not have the resources necessary to survive with available means.

You have the ability

The letter addresses Biden, saying: “You have the ability to influence our government to change its policy and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, in accordance with Israel’s legal obligation.”

The newspaper reported that the letter was signed by “Academia for Equality”, “Akivot Institute”, “B’Tselem”, “Bimkom”, as well as “Breaking the Silence”, “Combatants for Peace”, and “Gisha”. , “HaMoked Activists in the Jordan Valley,” and also “Looking at the Occupation in Al Ain,” and “Mashsum Watch.”

It was also signed by Parents Against Child Detention, PWG Psychoactive, Rabbis for Human Rights, and Resha Kamocha, as well as Social Workers for Peace and Welfare and Yesh Din. “, and “Zazim-Community Work”.
