The withdrawal of the corridor, which cut northern Gaza from the rest of the band, is part of the ceasefire agreement in Hamas-Israel.
The Israeli army has withdrawn from the Gaza Netzarim Corridor-a requirement under the first phase of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas agreed last month.
“Israeli forces have dismantled their military positions and positions and completely withdrew their reservoirs from the Netzarim corridor on Salaheddin Road, allowing vehicles to pass freely in both directions,” said Hamas responsible on Sunday, referring to Salah al- DIN Street.
The so-called netzarim corridor refers to a strip of earth that cut northern Gaza from the rest of the band. According to the ceasefire agreement, the deadline for withdrawal was February 9.
The total withdrawal of Israeli troops from the corridor took place one day after Hamas and Israel led their fifth exchange of captive prisoners, which saw the Palestinian group release three Israeli captives in exchange for 183 Palestinian prisoners detained in Israeli prisons.
In a statement, Hamas said that Israel’s complete withdrawal from the corridor signals a “continuation of the failure of the objectives of the war of extermination against the Palestinian people”.
He said that the return of the Palestinians displaced to their homes and the continuation of the exchange of captives and prisoners refutes the “lie” of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the victory in the 15 -month war on the enclave.
“Gaza will remain a land released by the hands of its people and its fighters, and prohibited from occupying invaders and to any external force,” he said.
Israel created the corridor at the start of his war against Gaza. It is a closed military zone which extends from the border of Israel with Gaza to the Mediterranean Sea and measures approximately 6 km (3.7 miles) wide.
The corridor was appointed after Netzarim, the last Israeli colony to be closed in Gaza in 2005, under the plan of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon for the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Doha reports, in Qatar, Stefanie Dekker of Tel Aviv Tribune said that the corridor was a strategic Israeli military decision – giving it access, control and surveillance.
“For the Palestinians, it was yet another land intake – a corridor of suffocation, attacks and death. The Israeli army was accused of having shot and killed without discrimination anyone who dared to approach, “she said.
“The Israeli media quoted soldiers saying that they thought that the withdrawal is a failure-leaving behind the corridor which had become a symbol of their power, their control and their victory,” she added.
Reporting from Northern Gaza, Hani Mahmoud of Tel Aviv Tribune said that the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the corridor is a hope for the most free movement for people in the enclave.
“It will be very difficult for the displaced people in this area to return home. It is difficult to imagine where they will stay here other than the simple implementation of tents here and there, “he said.
“Hope is now that with the withdrawal of the Israeli army, there is more free traffic, a flow of vehicles and aid trucks going to the northern part of the band,” -It added.
Mouin Rabbani, a non-resident stock market at the Middle East Council on World Affairs, told Tel Aviv Tribune that the Netzarim corridor “should not have a future” and “should disappear”.
“Israel not only occupied what they call the Netzarim corridor, but have made many structures there which have demonstrated their determination to maintain a permanent presence there, to have this capacity to bisse the Gaza band, to paralyze the transport and movement at will, ”he said.
“It failed again, and they are forced to withdraw from the Netzarim corridor and, hopefully, never come back.”
