Israeli Channel 12 reported that the occupation army had the opportunity to assassinate Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in recent months, but the operation was not carried out.
According to the channel, Israel refrained from carrying out the assassination of Sinwar because it might lead to the injury of Israelis detained in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, the Israeli General Security Service (Shin Bet) denied reports of Sinwar’s killing.
Last May, former Israeli Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi revealed failed Israeli attempts to assassinate Sinwar and the commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Muhammad al-Deif.
Israel considers Sinwar the mastermind of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation on October 7, 2023, which led to the killing of more than a thousand Israeli soldiers and settlers.
It is noteworthy that Sinwar held the position of leader of the Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip for years.
After the assassination of the head of the movement’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran at the end of last July, Sinwar was chosen to succeed him.
Attempts to assassinate Sinwar returned to the forefront after Israel was able to assassinate Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary Hassan Nasrallah and several of his aides in raids on the southern suburb of Beirut last Friday.
