The Israeli security establishment and army leadership warned Benjamin Netanyahu’s government on Sunday of an explosion in the West Bank and Jerusalem, accusing the prime minister and his ministers of evasion and not making decisions to prevent escalation in the West Bank.
Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper quoted Israeli officers as confirming that the situation in the West Bank cannot continue as it is, referring to the ongoing Israeli escalation, stressing that the West Bank is “on the brink of a major explosion.”
Israeli officers told the newspaper that the army refrains from carrying out arrests requested by the Israeli General Security Service (Shabak) in the West Bank due to the lack of space in the prisons.
They also confirmed that a large number of army officers are considering resigning because of the government’s policies in dealing with the West Bank.
inflame the situation
The officers also stated that the behavior of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir at the Temple Mount is not only inflaming the situation in the West Bank, but also in the Arab world.
In a related context, Israeli Channel 12 reported that the security establishment warned of an explosion of the situation in the West Bank and Jerusalem due to the behavior of Jews in the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
She stressed that the security establishment strongly criticizes the police’s failure to enforce the law on Jews on the Temple Mount.
She stressed that the police’s disregard for what is happening in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compounded Jewish prayer there and allowed for a real change in the status quo, warning that what is happening in the Al-Aqsa Mosque is extremely dangerous as the Jewish holidays approach.
“red flag”
For his part, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said that the Israeli security establishment is raising a “red flag” regarding what is happening in the West Bank, referring to its warnings of a deteriorating situation.
He pointed out that the government’s ignoring of the security establishment’s warnings once again means that it will bear responsibility for any “disaster that may occur,” as he described it.
In parallel with its war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, the occupation army expanded its operations and the settlers escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, resulting in the martyrdom of 692 Palestinians and the injury of about 5,700.
