The IDF took journalists to see the tunnels under Al-Shifa Hospital. The Israeli army wants to show that Hamas is using the establishment for terrorist attacks.
Narrow streets, secret rooms, hastily built showers and toilets… This is what around twenty hand-picked journalists, invited by the Israeli army, discovered during a media tour in a tunnel under the grounds of Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza.
The establishment was the focal point of several weeks of fighting. The IDF is convinced that Hamas housed weapons stocks and a command center there.
“There is an air-conditioned room inside, we see their bathroom that they are here, and even a small kitchen. So that means that when they try to survive, they fall, using the hospitals as a shield human, and they can stay here for a long time” explains Colonel Elad Tsury, commander of the 7th armored brigade.
The rest of the building, however, is still inaccessible to the press… Failing that, journalists were able to observe a stock of weapons displayed by the army and belonging, according to it, to Hamas. For its part, the Islamist movement refutes this information.
“Now a deal is coming and maybe it will happen… We will be ready, we will leave and release our hostages. We have a moral obligation to our hostages, but when we bring them back, we Let’s continue and defeat Hamas.” says Rear Admiral and IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari.
A few days earlier, the IDF released images purported to be from surveillance cameras at Al-Shifa Hospital, showing hostages brought to the facility on October 7, the day of the Hamas attack on southern Israel. .
