Israeli army: Military operation in Jenin continues | News

The Israeli army said on Friday that the military operation it began in the Jenin governorate in the northern occupied West Bank 10 days ago is still ongoing.

The army said in an official statement that the forces will continue the operation until its goals are achieved, without specifying its objectives.

The statement indicated that 14 militants were killed in Jenin, more than 30 suspects were arrested, about 30 roadside bombs were destroyed, and 4 airstrikes were carried out in the area. The Israeli army also claimed that it found weapons and combat equipment that were confiscated.

Earlier, eyewitnesses said that the Israeli army withdrew from the cities of Tulkarm and Jenin in the northern West Bank and their camps after a 10-day military operation that left 36 Palestinian martyrs and widespread destruction.

The Israeli army began its large-scale military operation in the northern West Bank on August 28, which included the cities and camps of Jenin, Tulkarm, Tubas and Al-Far’a, where the forces carried out repeated incursions, resulting in the killing and arrest of many Palestinians.

The military operations resulted in the martyrdom of 36 Palestinians and the injury of 150 others, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Funeral of 8 martyrs

Meanwhile, thousands of people in the city of Jenin today, Friday, buried the bodies of 8 Palestinians who were martyred by the Israeli army during the military operation.

The funeral procession started in front of Jenin Governmental Hospital, where mourners raised Palestinian flags and chanted slogans denouncing the Israeli violations, while gunmen fired into the air to express their anger and demand revenge.

The Palestinian Red Crescent announced yesterday, Thursday, the killing of 5 Palestinians in an air strike that targeted a car in the city of Tubas, north of the occupied West Bank.

The Red Crescent confirmed in a statement that “5 martyrs and one serious injury” had fallen as a result of an Israeli bombardment that targeted the car.

The bloodiest week

For its part, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported today, Friday, that last week was the bloodiest for Palestinian civilians in the West Bank since November 2023.

The agency explained in a post on the “X” platform that “violence and destruction in the West Bank are constantly increasing in light of the ongoing war on Gaza,” stressing that this situation is “unacceptable and must stop immediately.”

UNRWA indicated that last week witnessed the killing of many Palestinians, including 7 children, and explained that the Israeli aggression in the northern West Bank has so far led to the martyrdom of 40 Palestinians, including 21 from Jenin Governorate, 8 from Tulkarm, 8 from Tubas, and 3 from Hebron.

Israeli attacks on Palestinians continued in conjunction with Israel’s war on Gaza, which broke out on October 7, as the army and settlers escalated their attacks in the West Bank, resulting in the martyrdom of 691 Palestinians, the injury of 5,700 others, and the arrest of more than 10,400 Palestinians, according to official Palestinian organizations.

The US-backed Israeli war on the Gaza Strip has killed and injured more than 135,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, with more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and severe famine that has severely affected the population and led to the death of many children.
