The Israeli army claims to have “completed the encirclement” from the town of Jabalia, north of Gaza, and claims that its forces are “ready for the next phase”.

The Institute for the Study of War think tank said Israeli forces advanced south from clear positions in Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya.

Days earlier, an IDF spokesperson said Hamas’s Northern Brigade had a command and control center and critical strongholds in Jabalia.

Jabalia is the largest of eight refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Densely populated, it covers 1.4 km² and has long struggled with overpopulation and lack of living space.
