The IDF says it wants to prevent Hamas from “reestablishing its military capabilities.”
Very early this Sunday, the Israeli army sent these tanks to Jabalia, in the north of the Gaza Strip. With the objective, according to the IDF, of preventing Hamas from “reestablishing its military capabilities”. A few months ago, however, the IDF claimed to have taken control of the area. With tens of thousands of civilians in the city, the army has asked them to evacuate.
Faced with this conflict, which seems to have no solution, the UN Secretary General has once again called for an immediate ceasefire. During a donor conference for the Gaza Strip in Kuwait, Antonio Guterres recalled that the path to reconstruction will be difficult.
“It will be a long road to overcome the devastation and trauma of this war. Gazans will need even stronger, deeper humanitarian and long-term development partnerships to get back on their feet and rebuild their lives“, declared António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
And despite international warnings, the Israeli army is intensifying pressure in Rafah, where it has ordered new evacuations of residents. According to the UN, around 300,000 people have fled the city this week. Entire families, forced to leave, without knowing where to go. Until now Rafah was a refuge for more than a million Gazans who fled bombings in the center and north of the Palestinian enclave.
