The Israeli army arrested dozens of Palestinians in the context of an expansion of its military operations through the occupied West Bank.
At least 50 people were arrested during night raids, according to the Palestinian prisoner company (PPS) and the Affairs Ex-Detera groups, both cited by a report by the Palestinian news agency WAFA on Wednesday.
According to the Wafa report, the soldiers gathered people for questioning in the governors of Hebron, Tulkarem, Qalqilya, Nablus, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jericho and Tubas.
As part of the campaign, Israeli troops stormed the Majed Abu Sharar school in the city of Dura near Hebron and arrested two students, the media office of Palestinian prisoners said on Wednesday.
The new arrests have brought the number of Palestinians detained by the Israeli army in the West Bank since October 2023 to more than 14,500, including those who were released later, according to Palestinian groups.
The figure does not include those arrested by the Gaza Strip, whose figures are estimated at thousands of people.
Mass detentions occurred in the middle of the intensified military offensive of Israel in the West Bank which started after the ceasefire of Gaza was agreed a month ago.
The offensive saw at least 62 Palestinians killed and around 40,000 people evacuated Jenin, Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps in the West Bank in a month.
Philippe Lazzarini, general commissioner of the United Nations Agency for Palestinian refugees, said on Wednesday that the occupied West Bank was now an “battlefield” confronted with an “alarming overflow” of the Gaza War.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army has published new evacuation orders for residents of the Nur Shams camp, located east of the city of Tulkarem, before the scheduled demolition of 11 residential buildings.
Israeli forces have given residents only three hours to evacuate their homes, according to Wafa. Families have been seen leaving their homes with the few personal effects they have taken.
On Sunday, the Israeli army sent tanks to Jenin’s refugee camp, the first deployment of this type since its repression against the second intifada in 2002, announcing an “prolonged stay” for the coming year to fight against the Palestinian armed groups.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that this decision was a continuation of the “genocide, displacement and annexation” of Israel.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority condemned the repeated obstruction of ambulances in the West Bank by Israeli forces, accusing them of violating international humanitarian law.

The Director of the PA marked more difficulty in coming before the Ramadan Muslim month, which should begin on Saturday, warning that the Israeli authorities were preparing to “impose unprecedented repressive policies” to further isolate the occupation of East Jerusalem and its Palestinian surroundings.
He said that Israel would set limits to the number of Muslim worshipers in the compound of the Al-Aqsa mosque. The army has already deployed 3,000 armed personnel members to control points surrounding East Jerusalem and has tightened its grip on 82 military control points.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 924 Palestinians were killed and more than 7,000 injured by the Israeli army in occupied West Bank.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared the occupation of Israel of the decades of illegal Palestinian lands and demanded the evacuation of all the existing colonies in the West Bank, including Jerusalem-Est.
