In response to this attack, the Israeli army announced that it had targeted a Hezbollah military site in southern Lebanon.

These exchanges of fire took place as negotiations continue in Cairo to find a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. At the same time, in the Egyptian capital, a council of the Arab League is also being held. The organization notably called for emergency aid to be sent to the Palestinian enclave.

While waiting to reach a ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military offensive continues. On Monday, residents of a neighborhood in Rafah were busy searching for possible survivors in the rubble of a building hit by gunfire. Strikes which left at least 14 dead.

While humanitarian aid arrives in trickles, for weeks NGOs have been warning of the risk of famine. An ongoing humanitarian tragedy for which the UN has once again expressed its fears.

In Geneva, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said he was deeply concerned by the situation in the Gaza Strip, which he described as “powder magazine“.
