The Israeli army opened the investigation into nine of its soldiers following allegations of “serious abuse” of a detainee.
The events allegedly took place at the Sde Teiman military base where Israel has held and interrogated Palestinian prisoners throughout the Gaza war.
The IDF has not released further details regarding the alleged abuses. Since the beginning of the conflict, the Israeli military has generally denied any mistreatment of detainees.
The issue became political, and dozens of protesters came out to show their support for the soldiers, holding placards and Israeli flags and chanting “shame on you.”
