The Israeli authorities released a settler accused of killing the Palestinian, the return of Al -Hathalin, one of the participants in the production of a documentary that won the Oscar of the year 2025, from house arrest.
The Haaretz newspaper said that the Jerusalem Magistrate Court refused the police request to extend his detention, and she saw that “the settler Yennon Levi behaves in self -defense, and that there is no causal link between the shots that he launched and the divorce that killed the two.”
During the session, Judge Hafi Tawker said in her decision that “Levy prevented an accident in which dozens of Palestinians who were stoning him participated.”
During the session, the occupation police representative, the inspector, Youssef Muil, said that the victim’s body showed the effects of entry and exit of the deadly bullet, but he admitted that the bullet itself was not found.
Levi’s lawyer, “Avishai Hajbi”, talked about the danger that his client faced, saying: “In a moment of threat to life, even if my client’s connection to shooting is proven, the danger in this case is clear.”
The police had requested the extension of the house arrest of Levi for 8 days due to the seriousness of his actions, but the court rejected the request. However, the court approved the police request to prevent him from communicating with anyone linked to the case for 30 days.
It is also expected that 4 Palestinians who were arrested on suspicion of throwing stones at them on Monday. Levy identified the four identity, referring to them at the beginning and then introduced them carefully later.
The Military Court of Appeal judge said that the recognition process “is not without difficulties”, but was sufficient in this first stage to extend their detention until Monday.
As for the lawyers of the Palestinian detainees, including lawyer Nasser Odeh, they have argued that the arrest of several suspects indicates ambiguity in the process of identification, and claimed that Levy had a motive to fabricate the charge for them because he is the main accused in the shooting incident.
Details of the incident
Al -Hathalin, 31, was martyred during an attack by settlers on the village of Umm Al -Khair, with a traveler of Yatta, south of the occupied West Bank, last Monday.
A video clip, published by the Israeli human rights organization “Betastm”, showed the settler, Levi fired from his gun on the Hathalin.
The next day, the occupation army imposed the village a “closed military zone”, and preventing anyone other than its inhabitants from entering. Pharmaceutical soldiers arrived at the funeral tent held in the village and expelled journalists and isolated without its inhabitants. On Thursday, the army canceled this decision after media pressure and allowed the village to enter freely.
Despite the end of the autopsy of the Hathalin on Wednesday, the occupation authorities are still holding its body until today, Saturday. The police and the army refuse to hand over the body to his family unless it agrees with conditions imposed on the funeral ceremony.
Among the conditions is that no consolation tent was not set up near the family’s house, the body was buried in the neighboring city of Yatta instead of his village, Umm Al -Khair, and the number of participants in the funeral is only 15 people.
Later, the authorities raised the number of permitted attendees, but insisted on preventing the burial of the body in Umm al -Khair. The occupation forces stated that “the burial site in Umm al -Khair is illegal, according to the evaluation of the situation.”
The family rejected these conditions, and in a protest reaction, more than 70 women from the village announced the start of an open hunger strike until the body of the Hathalin was returned and all the detainees from the villagers were released.
Knesset member Gilad Carv visited the funeral tent with human rights organizations, and said that “the great rise in settlers’ violence, with the support of the extremist Benjamin Netanyahu government, threatens to turn the West Bank into a comprehensive chaos. It is our duty to stand up to this violence and raise the voice against these continuous grievances.”
“Karif” called on the police to hand over the body of Al -Hathalin to his family and allow them to hold the funeral ceremony as they like.
“No other land”
Hathalla is one of the participants in the production of the movie “No Oscar”, who won the Oscar for the Best Long Documentary in 2025.
The film focuses on the forced displacement that Israel imposes on the Palestinians from the Muffafar area of Yatta, south of Hebron, and the accompanying homes.
The official Palestine TV said that the Hatalla worked as a teacher at the Al -Saraya Secondary School in the Badia in Mesafir Yatta, and he is the father of 3 children, the oldest of whom is 6 years old.
According to the data of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority, the settlers carried out more than 2150 attacks during the first half of 2025 alone, which led to the martyrdom of 4 Palestinians, and caused the destruction of property and the displacement of dozens of families.
