Iran’s representation at the United Nations commented on Saturday on documents leaked by Israel to the New York Times linking Tehran to planning for the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation, which Hamas launched against the occupation on October 7, 2023.
The Iranian representation described Israel as a criminal and lying entity, and stressed that Tehran had no connection to the October 7 attack.
The Iranian representation said, “While Hamas officials residing in Doha declared that they had no knowledge of this operation and that the design, decision, and management of the aforementioned operation were solely the responsibility of the military wing of Hamas in Gaza, any claim linking this operation to Iran or Hezbollah, whether It was partial or complete, has no credibility and is considered slander and fabrication of documents.”
The New York Times reported on Saturday that it had seen minutes of secret Hamas meetings that the Israeli army claimed to have seized, saying that these minutes provided a detailed record of planning for the October 7 attack.
The newspaper explained that the minutes include Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s insistence on convincing Iran and Hezbollah to join the operation or at least commit to a broader fight with Israel if Hamas launches a surprise attack across the border.
But the Iranian mission to the United Nations considered these records to be mere lies. She said, “The Israeli regime is a lying, criminal entity that is hostile to humanity.”
She added, “The Israeli regime is an entity with a long history of spreading lies and forging documents.”
