German nationals are being urged by Berlin to leave Lebanon as tensions rise in the Middle East following a deadly attack on the Golan Heights.
Germany has urged its citizens to leave Lebanon as a matter of urgency, fearing an Israeli military response to a deadly rocket attack on the Golan Heights that the Jewish state blames on Hezbollah.
Risk of air traffic disruption
On Monday, Germany updated its travel warning for Lebanon, saying air travel could be disrupted.
“A further escalation of the situation and an extension of the conflict cannot be ruled out”the German Foreign Ministry wrote in a statement, “This applies particularly to the southern regions of Lebanon, including the urban areas of southern Beirut.”.
Lebanon exposed to Israeli retaliation
Germany’s warning comes as Benjamin Netanya has vowed a tough response to the attack that killed 12 children and teenagers last Saturday. The Israeli army continues its strikes on villages in southern Lebanon. In the town of Shaqra, two people were killed and three others wounded.
Since October 8, the risk of an escalation of tensions between Israeli troops and the Iranian-backed Lebanese paramilitary group Hezbollah has continued to increase.
