A humanitarian convoy delivered 19,000 liters of fuel to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on Monday. UN chief António Guterres has insisted on the need for a two-state solution, as 2.2 million people cannot survive on humanitarian aid alone, according to him.

A humanitarian convoy from the UN, the World Health Organization and Doctors Without Borders delivered fuel to Al-Shifa hospital earlier this week.

Hampered by checkpoint controls, extremely damaged roads and thousands of civilians surrounding the convoy hoping to obtain water and food, the truck was finally able to reach the hospital.

Despite significant shortages, 120 caregivers at the establishment continue to keep the radiology and surgery departments open, as well as the emergency room. The team of humanitarians who visited the site on Monday were able to observe better operations than ten days previously.

The delivery of fuel will ensure continuity of care for the 300 patients currently hospitalized there.

However, UN chief António Guterres insisted on Tuesday that we should not think that “2.2 million people can survive on humanitarian aid alone“.

A two-state solution

The Secretary General of the United Nations insisted that “the right of the Palestinian people to build their own fully independent state must be recognized by all“.

António Guterres also insisted on Tuesday on the need for a two-state solutionand described as “unacceptable“Israel’s repeated refusal to discuss this solution.
