The IDF has not suffered such a deadly attack since the start of the war between it and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Israeli military, the reservists were killed by rocket launcher fire.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his sadness and promised that the IDF would fight until victory.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israeli army spokesman: “Based on what we know at this point, at around 4 p.m., an RPG missile was apparently fired by terrorists at a tank that was providing security for the force and simultaneously, an explosion occurred in two two-story buildings. The buildings collapsed due to this explosion. At that time, most of the force was inside.”

According to the Associated Press agency, Israel offered a two-month truce in exchange for the release of Hamas hostages, a proposal rejected by the terrorist organization which demands a total cessation of fighting and the withdrawal of IDF soldiers.
