The Israeli occupation army announced – on Sunday evening – that Hamas fighters fired rockets towards the city of Tel Aviv from positions 800 meters away from the forces stationed in the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
For the first time since January 29, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of the Hamas movement – announced that it had bombed Tel Aviv with a missile salvo in response to the Israeli massacres against civilians.
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a press conference, “Hamas fighters fired rockets today (Sunday) towards (Tel Aviv) in central Israel, and they were only 800 meters away from our forces in Rafah.”
He continued, “Hamas fighters emptied their ammunition toward our forces when they approached them, then fired rockets toward central Israel.”
The occupation spokesman claimed that the army destroyed the platform from which they launched the missiles, and acknowledged that material damage had occurred as a result of missiles falling near Tel Aviv.
The occupation failed
Since May 6, Israel has launched a ground attack on Rafah, and the next day it seized the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, closing it to the crossing of the wounded and already scarce humanitarian aid.
The launching of rockets from Gaza into Israel has decreased relatively, but the occupation army has not been able to stop it completely, despite its ongoing devastating war on the Strip since last October 7.
On May 5, Israeli Army Radio said that the rate of rocket firing from Gaza exceeded expectations, despite its gradual decline over the past three months.
On a daily basis, Palestinian factions announce the killing and wounding of Israeli soldiers and the destruction of military vehicles, and broadcast video clips documenting some of their operations.
The Israeli authorities face local accusations of concealing a larger toll of deaths and injuries in confrontations with the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
The Israeli war on Gaza left more than 116,000 martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of children and the elderly.
Israel continues the war despite orders from the International Court of Justice to halt the ground attack on Rafah, and to take immediate interim measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Israel also ignores the International Criminal Court’s intention to issue international arrest warrants against its Prime Minister and Defense Minister for their responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
